PAT
HUNTER

Pat Hunter is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the New York club scene. Her voice is as original as her
life has been and her career although relatively new, was a lifetime in the making.
Born in 1965, in Inwood New York, one can say Pat was born into the blues.
At the age of two, Pat’s father Charles suffered a sudden and very questionable death. Shortly afterwards her mother,
a widow at twenty-five found herself unable to cope, and placed Pat into the loving home of her grandmother, who
would raise her for the next sixteen years.
Under the tutelage of her grandmother Mamie Williams, a Mother at the St. John’s First Baptist Church in Inwood, Pat
was surrounded by Gospel music. The glorious sounds of Mahalia Jackson, Shirley Caesar and The Mighty Clouds of
Joy were a mainstay in the Williams household.
By the age of eight, children would offer Pat their lunch money to hear her perform her uncanny impersonations of
Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. Throughout her childhood and well into her teens, Pat participated in many acting
classes and appeared in various community theatre productions. Pat’s feet were firmly planted on a sure path, but by
the age of eighteen her dreams would have to be put on hold. In 1984, Pat was devastated by the death of her
beloved grandmother, six months later her world would be rocked again; Pat was to become a mother. For the next
sixteen years, Pat had to put aside any hopes of a career in entertainment.
In 2000, Pat could no longer suppress her desire to perform. She quit her job as a claims adjuster to try her hand at
acting. Within the first year Pat had earned herself roles on notable shows such as Sex in the City, Law and Order,
and Law and Order Special Victims Unit. Pat also appeared in movies such as Shaft, Someone Like You and
CenterStage.
In 2001, Pat was invited to study musical theatre and vocal techniques with legendary vocal coach, Ron Shetler,
Musical Director for the prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse. Ron has trained many accomplished Broadway, and
cinema stars including; Tony award nominees, Pamela Issacs of “The Life”, Liz Callaway of “Cats”, and Tony award
winner Terrance Mann. Ron also coached actors such as Kevin Klein and Val Kilmer for stints on Broadway.. Ron’s
encouragement was influential in Pat’s development as a singer and performer. Pat’s dedication was rewarded with a
starring role as “Ms. Mona” in Ron Shetler’s production of “The Best Little Whore House in Texas”, performed at Don’
t Tell Momma Cabaret.
In early 2002, Pat began working at the Triad Theatre in NYC. The Triad, known for there Monday Night Blues Jam,
hosted many of music’s elite. Pat was beckoned many Monday nights to get up and sing, but was intimidated at the
thought of sharing the stage with members of such great acts as The Billy Joel Band, Spiro Gyra, Living Color and
The John Etwissle Band . Until, one memorable night when Pat took the stage and brought the house down with
Her “Rafter Rattling” version of Tina Turner’s Proud Mary. People were in awe at the wall of sound that emanated from
this tiny girl. Pat followed with a heart wrenching rendition of Stormy Monday, and their wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
Soon after Pat’s phone rang off the hook with offers to sing with various bands. Pat has performed with “Blues Hall of
Fame Inductee”, Sam Taylor, Bobby Nathan’s Memphis Blues Band, Steve Marshall and the Deputies, Prentiss Mcneil
of The Drifters, Jim Moran and the Boulevard Blues Band. Pat has also performed with wedding band Planet Soul.
In January 2004, at the, “ WBAB, Long Island Blues Society Benefit for the Long Island Music Hall of Fame” Pat was
formally introduced to the Long Island Blues Community, when she was unexpectedly summoned to the stage by friend
and mentor, Sam Taylor to perform for a crowd of well over eight hundred people!
When asked to comment on her experience that night Pat stated “In one night, Sam Taylor made a lifetime of dreams
come true. If I never perform again, I will always have this moment! Thank you Sam, for believing in me!”
Pat joined forces with, “The Blind Man Extrodinaire ” keyboard virtuoso, and recording artist Danny Kean. Together,
they have formed, “MISbHAVIN!” an R&B, Blues, and Funk review which has taken Long Island by storm. Pat along with
MISbHAVIN! and Sam Taylor have opened for such musical icons as Ronnie Spector , Nancy Sinatra, and recently
deceased blues guitarist Bill Perry. Life Lessons, Pat’s debut cd was released on July 16th 2004 at The Notable
Riverhead Blues Festival Where Pat’s debut was rewarded with a standing ovation. In addition, The Pat hunter Blues
Experiment has been selected by the New York Blues and Jazz Society as one of five semi finalist bands to compete
for the 2004 National Memphis Blues Competion in September.2005.Placing respectfully 11th out of 114 bands.
